Community groups, climate groups, village halls, VCSE organisations, politicians and change makers from across York and North Yorkshire are invited to come together for Community Climate Conference 2026: practical climate action in York and North Yorkshire.

The free one-day conference will take place on Saturday 11 July 2026 at Friargate Quaker Meeting House, Friargate, York, YO1 9RL, with registration opening from 9.30am ahead of a 10am start.

The event will explore how communities can take practical climate action that supports a more sustainable future. It will feature keynote speakers sharing regional and national perspectives, alongside engaging breakout sessions celebrating local action, shared learning and success stories from across York and North Yorkshire.

There will also be a marketplace session, giving attendees the chance to meet and learn from groups already taking climate action in their communities.

Patrick Hoyle, Climate Action Officer for Village Green, said:

“Across York and North Yorkshire, there are already so many people and groups taking practical steps to make their communities greener, stronger and more resilient. This conference is about bringing that energy together, sharing what is working and helping more communities feel confident to take action.”

The conference is designed to help people feel inspired by real stories of success and empowered to bring practical climate action into their own communities. It will also be an opportunity to connect people, groups and organisations working towards a shared sustainable future, strengthening the growing network of community climate action across York and North Yorkshire.

Patrick added:

“Climate action can sometimes feel too big or too distant, but this event is focused on what communities can do locally. Whether that is around energy, food, nature, transport, buildings or community spaces, there will be ideas, examples and connections that people can take back and use where they live.”

The event is brought to you by North Yorkshire Climate Coalition, York Friends of the Earth and Village Green, a project supported by Community First Yorkshire and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Village Green is helping communities across North Yorkshire take practical, meaningful action on climate change, making it feel local, achievable and rooted in everyday life.

Places are free, but booking is required.
